Colorado House Rejects Bill That Would Repeal Magazine Limit

Democrats in Colorado’s state legislature are apparently not learning too much by the recall of two state senators and a looming recall forcing the resignation of a third. Today, Democrats in the Colorado House’s House State Affairs committee, voted along party lines to reject a bill which would have removed the magazine limit that is currently in place in the state (15 rounds). Some law enforcement officers have voiced concerns that the magazine ban is almost completely unenforceable. Standard capacity magazines bought in other states are indistinguishable from “pre-ban” magazines that are currently allowed under the current Colorado law. To date, I do not beleive anyone has been arrested or encountered issues with the magazine capacity limit law. According to the Denver Post, despite the…

Advocates Believe New Momentum For Open Carry Law

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Many gun rights activists say now, maybe more than ever before, they believe they have the momentum to pass an open carry law for handguns in Texas. More than 70 people with the group Open Carry Texas participated in an open carry walk Sunday afternoon in the Uptown neighborhood in Dallas. Texas currently allows open carry of rifles and shotguns which is what these demonstrators were carrying as they walked around the West Village development. State law, however; prohibits open carry of a handgun.  Activists want to change that. “The Second Amendment is very clear – the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,” said Daniel Woods with Open Carry Texas. Sunday’s demonstration comes just days after…

Sen. Curt McKenzie: Idaho concealed-carry bill for campuses smartly protects rights

Currently none of our state-run universities honors a private citizen’s rights to bear arms. Senate Bill 1254 corrects that by providing a limited right to carry on certain parts of our campuses. The opponents of SB 1254 have argued that we should not allow 18-year-olds to carry firearms on campus, that we should not allow guns in dorms or at sporting events, and we need to protect against guns in the hands of those under the influence of alcohol. These arguments misstate what SB 1254 actually does. First, the bill allows only retired law enforcement officers or those with an enhanced concealed-carry permit to carry a firearm on campus. That means a citizen must be at least 21 years old, because the enhanced carry license…

Liberal Texas Governor Candidate Wendy Davis Now Says She Supports Open Carry for Texas

Wendy Davis’s campaign isn’t having the best time right now in her bid for becoming governor of Texas. A couple of weeks ago it was revealed that Davis may have fudged some aspects of her official bio. Now, to try and get back on the good side of Texans, Davis has announced that she is in support of making openly carried firearms legal in the state of Texas. Much to the surprise of many non-Texans, Texas actually requires gun carriers to keep their firearms concealed, unlike many states which also allow firearms to be openly carried. According to the Dallas News, Rising Democratic star and gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis has joined her top Republican rival in supporting a proposed “open carry” law. It would allow…
